De 1986 à 1996, Éric Goulet est chanteur et guitariste du groupe Possession Simple. Ils font paraître deux albums avant de se séparer. Goulet fonde ensuite Les Chiens en 1997 au même moment où il entreprend une carrière de réalisateur qui l'amènera à travailler avec entre-autres, Yann Perreau, WD-40, Vincent Vallières et Alexandre Belliard. En 2001 Les Chiens lancent l'album La nuit dérobée qui remportera le Félix de l'album alternatif de l'année. Durant les années 2000, Goulet poursuit en parallèle une carrière solo et sort deux albums sous le pseudonyme de Monsieur Mono qui connaîtront un succès inattendu. Sous son propre nom il fait paraître l'album Volume 1 en 2011 aux sonorités plus country. En 2014, Éric Goulet présente Volume 2. En avril 2021, il présente GOULET.
