Nació en Perú durante una gira de sus padres, los legendarios cantantes cubanos Olga Chorens y Tony Álvarez. A temprana edad, salió de Cuba acompañada de su hermana menor Olguita como parte de un programa llamado Pedro Pan (Peter Pan), al igual que miles de niños que escaparon de la tiranía comunista que llegó a la isla en 1959. Varios años más tarde, se reunió con sus padres en Puerto Rico donde fue adoptada como uno de los suyos. Allí su carrera tomó alto vuelo y hasta el día de hoy muchos creen que es puertorriqueña. Lissette no sólo ha limitado su carrera a cantar sino también a la composición, la actuación y la producción. Como compositora, ha escrito, producido y publicado más de un centenar de temas. Entre discos originales y compilaciones tiene más de 50 álbumes en su haber y ha sido merecedora de 12 Discos de Oro, siendo su más reciente producción el álbum Navidad en Familia, el segundo que hace con su esposo el músico, compositor y artista cubano Willy Chirino.
