1978 yılında İzmit'de doğdu. 9 yaşında blok flüt ve harmonika çalmaya başladı.Sonrasında Klasik ve Elektro gitar eğitimi aldı. Yakın dönemlerde kurduğu ‘’Capricorn’’ ve ‘’bdg’’ isimli iki farklı müzik grubunda bas gitar çalmaya, beste ve aranje yapmaya başladı. Pera Güzel Sanatlar Lisesi’'nde ve özel olarak Nezih Yeşilnil'den caz bas eğitimi aldı. Farklı birçok grup ve sanatçıyla çalışarak konser ve stüdyo müzisyenliği yaptı. Uluslararası birçok festival ve konserlerde çaldı. Halk müziği sanatçısı Özgür Akdemir’in ‘Nerdesin’ adlı albümünde aranjörlük ve yönetmenlik yaptı. İstanbul Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuarı Hocası Doç. Cihan Yurtçu ve Özgür Akdemir’le bir çok konser verdi. TRT, CNNTurk, Star TV, Kral TV gibi birçok ulusal kanalın programlarına çıkan Umut Yenilmez Radyo 7 ve İstanbul Üniversitesi Radyo İletişimde konuk sanatçı oldu. Umut Yenilmez şimdilerde kendisinin seslendireceği beste ve albümlerle müzik üretmeye devam etmektedir.
