Midwest FurFest is an annual convention which takes place in the west suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. We come together to celebrate the furry fandom, which includes art, literature and performances based around anthropomorphic animals. The origins of Midwest FurFest lie in the furry programming track of Duckon, an annual science fiction convention based out of Chicago. The furry track of the convention began to grow so large, that we were soon able to support our own convention. In 1999, Midwest Furry Fandom, Inc., was created as a 501(c)3 (non-profit corporation); one year later, Midwest Furfest was born. Since 2000, the convention has grown from 388 attendees to 8,700 attendees; one of the largest conventions of its type in the world.
