The Pere Marquette 1225 is a class "N-1" 2-8-4 "Berkshire" type steam locomotive that was built in October 1941 at Lima, Ohio. It was originally built for the Pere Marquette railroad. This locomotive is most famous for the locomotive seen in the 2004 Christmas film, “The Polar Express”. It was also seen in the book version of “The Polar Express” dating back to 1985. The Pere Marquette Railway used 1225 through its regular service from the construction of the locomotive until the railway merged into Chesapeake and Ohio Railway during 1947. It continued to be used on C&O’s Michigan railways up until 1951, just like the Pere Marquette 1223 and was sent to the scrapyard. In 1957, No. 1225 was taken from the scrapyard and was handed over to the Michigan State University and was eventually put on display. 12 years later, in 1969 a group of students were interested in this locomotive and 2 years later, formed a Railroad Club.
