O Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, comumente referido como Corinthians, é um clube poliesportivo brasileiro da cidade de São Paulo, capital do estado de São Paulo. Foi fundado como uma equipe de futebol no dia 1 de setembro de 1910 por um grupo de operários do bairro Bom Retiro. Seu nome foi inspirado no Corinthian Football Club de Londres, que excursionava pelo Brasil. A ideia do ‘Time do Povo’ foi constituída desde a origem do Corinthians. O primeiro presidente do clube foi o alfaiate Miguel Battaglia, que disse, segundo registro oficial do site do Corinthians, logo de cara: “O Corinthians vai ser o time do povo e o povo é quem vai fazer o time” Existem duas versões: uma delas é de que o apelido Timão foi dado pela imprensa em 1966, época que o Corinthians contratou alguns dos principais destaques do futebol brasileiro, dentre eles Mané Garrincha. A outra versão é de que o apelido Timão vem do formato do escudo do clube, que lembra o volante de uma embarcação, que é chamado de timão
