MURALES DE LIBERTAD es una propuesta de sensibilización y expresión artística implementada desde el año 2008 en las cárceles de la ciudad de Quito. Esta iniciativa surge del artista plástico Alejandro Cruz, en un esfuerzo conjunto por vincular el arte a los procesos de rehabilitación, ofreciendo así atención prioritaria para este sector altamente vulnerable. En este sentido, esta iniciativa beneficia a las personas que viven en reclusión, un segmento que ha sido históricamente marginado y marcado por la estigmatización social, llevándoles un mensaje alentador y positivo que propone desde su interiorización reivindicar su condición, creando una imagen más humana frente a la opinión pública a través de la práctica de sus derechos. Más tarde otros artistas se irían sumando, hasta convertirse en una propuesta multidisciplinaria donde convergen diferentes expresiones como la plástica, la música, el teatro, la radio y los audiovisuales.
