But the KNVB believes that the power of football transcends sport. For young people in disadvantaged areas on the margins of society, football offers much, much more. The beautiful game brings people of all backgrounds together, increases health, boosts local economies and catalyses change. It’s these factors that the KNVB unites in the WorldCoaches program to empower local communities in developing countries. By balancing football training with life skills lessons, a WorldCoach teaches children to become better footballers and guides them in issues faced in the local community like drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and water and sanitation. For children and communities worldwide, a WorldCoach is an invaluable role model on and off the pitch.
