הפועל אילת - הדף הרשמי·יום ראשון, 9 ביוני 2019· תחילת עונת 1990/91 הצטרף לקבוצה המאמן אריק שיבק ובסיום העונה העפיל איתה לליגת העל. בסגל הקבוצה נכללו: שרון דרוקר, בילי מילר, משה אגמי, אייל חי, זוהר צימבליסט הוותיק והאחים חנן וזוהר אלביליה. לאחר שהעפילה מהליגה השנייה, הפועל אילת החלה לשחק בשנת 1991/1992 לראשונה בתולדותיה בליגת העל בכדורסל והמאמן שיבק המשיך לשנתיים נוספות. הקבוצה שיחקה בליגת העל בין השנים 1991 - 1999. בעונת 1996/1997 הקבוצה הצליחה לראשונה להעפיל לפלייאוף העליון לאחר שסיימה במקום הרביעי; היא פגשה בחצי הגמר את מכבי תל אביב והפסידה לה. עונת 1998 הייתה שנתה הגדולה של הפועל אילת, היא סיימה את הליגה הסדירה במקום השלישי, ניצחה את מכבי ראשון לציון 3-2 בסדרת רבע הגמר, ניצחה את רעננה 3-1 בסדרת חצי הגמר ללא יתרון ביתיות, והגיע לגמר הפלייאוף נגד מכבי תל אביב. היא אמנם הובסה במשחק הראשון והשלישי ביד אליהו, אבל הצליחה למתוח את מכבי תל אביב במשחק השני באילת, ולאחר שאילת הובילה ברוב שלבי המשחק ניצחה מכבי 89-85. בתחילת שנת 2000 נקלעה הקבוצה לקשיים כספיים כבדים, שבעקבותיהם ירדה לליגה ה
