Rüştü Onur (Mert Fırat) ve Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu (Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ) şiirlerini dünya ile paylaşmak isteyen, hayata mısraların arasından bakan iki genç şairdir. Bu yoldaki en büyük yol göstericileri olan Behçet Necatigil (Yılmaz Erdoğan) önderliğinde tek amaçları Varlık Dergisi'nde şiirlerinin yayınlandığını görmek olan bu iki genç şairin hayatlarının akışı bir gün karşılarına çıkan genç bir kız ile değişecektir. İki genç şairin genç bir kızın beğenisini kazanmak için girdikleri "Şiir iddiası" olarak başlayan ve bizleri 1940'ların Türkiye'sine götüren film, Zonguldak'taki maden işçilerinden yoksulluğa, İkinci Dünya Savaşı'ndan ölümcül hastalıklara kadar uzanan hikayesi ile Türk sinemasının en önemli dönem filmlerinden birisini izleyicilere sunuyor.
