Наша цель — демократический социализм, основанный на общественной собственности, политической свободе и самоуправлении. Мы за сплочение левых и профсоюзных активистов, участниц женского освободительного движения, антифашистов и экозащитников в широкий политический фронт антикапиталистических сил. Мы верим, что лишь массовое движение, вооруженное классовой солидарностью и идеей равенства, может покончить с диктатурой капитала в России. РСД — часть международного антикапиталистического движения, противостоящая бюрократизму, коррупции и консерватизму российских «системных левых», а также праволиберальной идеологии, доминирующей в оппозиционной среде.
