L’avènement du Handball à SELESTAT connut un accueil enthousiaste de la part de la jeunesse Sélestadienne. Par la suite, cet enthousiasme, rarement défaillant, permit aux handballeurs de gravir en un temps record tous les échelons pour arriver au sommet des compétitions départementales et régionales pour finalement accéder dès 1972 en Championnat de France. Puis les handballeurs du S.C. SELESTAT firent leur bonhomme de chemin à ce niveau. L’équipe 1ère décrocha le titre de CHAMPION DE FRANCE en 1979 pour accéder en 1984 en Nat. II puis en 1985 en Nat. IB, et dès 90 au terme d’une saison exceptionnelle réalise son rêve et accède au 1er niveau du handball français pour s’y maintenir. Finaliste de la Coupe de France en 1995 face à l’OM Vitrolles. La COUPE d’ALSACE fut également remportée en 1980, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1994 et 1997.
