Durch kontinuierliche Aufbauarbeit und einem scharfen Blick für junge Talente und neue Stoffe verschaffte er der Tanzkunst in Dortmund zu neuen Höhen. Sein innovativer und neuartiger Ansatz mit unverbrauchten Inhalten und der Weiterentwicklung eines auf neoklassischer Technik aufbauenden Tanzstils, Uraufführungen und neugeschaffene abendfüllende Handlungsballette zu kreieren, lenkte die Blicke der Tanzwelt auf Dortmund. Dem Ansatz weltweiter Vernetzung folgend, gelang es ihm Tanzgrößen wie Mauro Bigonzetti, Hans van Manen, William Forsythe, Christian Spuck, Douglas Lee, Benjamin Millepied oder Edwaard Liang zu gewinnen. Auch die jährlich stattfindenden Internationalen Ballettgala-Abende sind zu einem starken Markenzeichen für Dortmund geworden.
