La Dirección General de Culturas Populares (DGCP) del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes tiene más de 30 años de promover el estudio, conservación, difusión y desarrollo de las culturas populares e indígenas de México. Su objetivo es fomentar la preservación y la difusión de las manifestaciones populares, urbanas, rurales e indígenas. Su misión es contribuir a la creación de condiciones sociales e institucionales que posibiliten el diálogo intercultural respetuoso y armónico, en el que se exprese toda la riqueza y diversidad cultural de nuestro país. La visión que fundamenta su trabajo es la de un país de relaciones interculturales basadas en el diálogo, en el valor que tiene la diversidad de sus comunidades y en el fortalecimiento de su patrimonio cultural; un país que reconoce y respeta plenamente las diferencias culturales y étnicas de sus integrantes. Un país que trabaja para que la discriminación desaparezca.
