O Programa de Educação Tutorial é um programa federal criado e implantado em 1979. O PET - História USP, no entanto, foi criado em 1995 pelo Professor Instvan Jancsó. É um programa que segue a seguinte estrutura: 12 membros bolsistas + 1 professor tutor. Ele é um programa que visa à formação integral de cada membro. Ele segue o tripé: pesquisa, ensino e extensão, e os considera como indissociáveis. Ou seja, esses três âmbitos resumem os aspectos de formação que a graduação deveria garantir e não devem ser vistos como separáveis. Ou seja, acreditamos que não exista extensão universitária sem pesquisa e ensino ou ensino sem pesquisa e extensão, etc. Assim, nossos trabalhos e projetos não seguem temas específicos pré-determinados e impostos. Ao contrário, os elaboramos a partir de demandas do grupo. Todos os trabalhos realizados pelo PET são de caráter coletivo.
