Yağmurun çok yağdığı bir gün uyarıları dikkate almayan Malik Bey yüzünden beklenen olur ve maden çöker. Davut, bu düzene karşı sesini yükseltmeye karar verir. Malik Bey’in de Davut için hiç beklenmeyen bir teklifi vardır. Malik Bey’in kızı Gülfem hayatın gerçeklerinden uzak, korunarak büyütülmüştür. Gülfem; ele avuca gelmez, söz dinlemez, hatta kaba-saba bir adam olarak gördüğü Davut’a zamanla içten içe hayranlık duymaya başlar. Malik Bey ise kızı Gülfem’i, Ali Gelik adında zengin bir maden patronuyla evlendirmeyi düşünmektedir.
